The Inaugural 5K Walk for Overdose Awareness
Phoenix House California’s “5K Walk to Promote Overdose Awareness” will take place on September 23, 2023 at Dockweiler State Beach 12000 Vista Del Mar, Playa Del Rey, CA 90293. This behavioral health event will offer vital, life-saving information and resources to about 250 county residents. Participants will walk the route, receive overdose prevention information and materials (free Naloxone kits, and a variety of flyers and brochures), as well as event T-shirts, and a free meal at the end of the Walk.
In 2021, methamphetamine and fentanyl were the most common drug types listed as a cause of death in accidental drug overdoses in Los Angeles County, and that fentanyl has become the most deadly chemical, responsible for 5,961 of 7,175 overdose deaths statewide. Luckily, fentanyl overdoses, like those caused by other opioids, are preventable with Naloxone, that will be distributed at the 5k Walk.
During the “Overdose Awareness 5k Walk” Phoenix House California will also remember those tragically lost to overdose and the pain of the families who are left behind. We will recommit ourselves to working together to build safe, healthy, and resilient communities.
