Michael A. Joseph, MS, CADC-CAS

Senior Director of Corrections & Rehabilitation

Michael A. Joseph joined Phoenix House California in June 2004 and since 2015 has served as Senior Director of Corrections and Rehabilitation Programs, overseeing all in-custody programs for adults and adolescents in California. His experience consists of supervising program directors and overseeing treatment of inmates within the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation; providing counseling for male and female inmates with co-occurring disorders; and working with transgendered individuals who struggle with substance abuse.

Mr. Joseph concurrently manages the Mental Health Services at the Crossroads Facility for Adolescents in Bakersfield, Kern County. He has counseled minors within a Juvenile Detention Center who have been exposed to substance abuse through gang activity and criminality. His counseling skills and application of Motivational Interviewing permits him to build positive therapeutic alliances with clients in guiding them towards abstinence and mental stability. Mr. Joseph’s professional experience includes over 20 years working in the field of human services, assisting people in overcoming challenges associated with the misuse of prescription drugs, illegal substances, and mental health issues. He possesses a Masters’ Degree in Occupational Management and Leadership and received his state certification as a substance abuse counselor through the California Consortium of Addictions Programs and Professionals.
