Kevin Simms, LCSW, CADC-II

Program Director for In-Custody Services

Kevin Simms joined Phoenix House in November 2020 and serves as the Program Director for Orange County In-Custody Substance Use Disorder Treatment Services. Mr. Simms has been working in the field of substance use treatment for the last ten years. Prior to joining Phoenix House, he served as a Program Manager for homeless outreach at The People Concern in Los Angeles and currently works as a therapist for a private practice in Long Beach.

With a tumultuous past of personal struggles, Mr. Simms learned at a very young age the complexities and barriers one might face battling addiction.  With a patient and empathic approach, he prides himself on being able to “reach” the client on a deep and meaningful level.  He believes that perspective shifts reality, and if the patient can view the treatment in a different light, and perhaps think outside the box with the help of a trusted advisor, they are much more likely to have a successful stint, even in the wake of repeated failed treatments. “Treatment isn’t necessarily about trying harder, but about trying something different.”

Mr. Simms holds an Associate degree in Chemical Dependency Counseling, a Bachelor’s in Social Work, and received his Master’s in Social Work from Nazareth College.
