Veteran with PTSD who had run-ins with the law gets recovery help from Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies

On February 13th, our Santa Ana location and staff received recognition for work they had done with former client Jermaine Petit, on KABC News. Petit had been arrested 24 times prior to coming into treatment, was frequently getting high on crystal meth and was using the drugs as a way to medicate his symptoms as a direct result of PTSD. Petit signed up for the Air Force prior to 9/11 and after returning, he began to have disturbing nightmares and flashbacks. His mother worked on getting her son help, which ultimately resulted in him coming to Phoenix House. At the end of February, Petit had a successful discharge and moved to transitional housing.
